Mandy overwhelmed by first European goal for Real Madrid

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy admitted that he was not sure how to mark his first in the European competition after providing Merengue with a crucial away strike against Atalanta on Wednesday.

The spectators played the entire match with almost a one-man advantage due to an opening red card for Remo Freer, with the only remaining for Madrid’s 1-0 victory on the left.

A home defeat means Atalan must score at least twice in Madrid, hoping to win the tie without a penalty shootout.

Amidst his eagerness to seal his team’s previous Hansi victory, Mendy confessed that he was at a loss when he saw the going inside.

“I didn’t know how to celebrate because it was my first European goal,” he told after the final whistle.

However coach Zinedine Zidan warned that the tie was far from over.

“It took us some time, but we scored a very important goal. This is a good result, ”he said.

“Isco played a good game, we gave ourselves a good result, but the tie is not over yet.

He said, ‘We played a very strong team, they played well defensively. And the most important thing is victory. We did not accept and we know there are many injuries but we are not giving many chances.

Big picture

The past two seasons have seen Mendy move into a position on the left, which was the personal property of Ace Marcello of Brazil in Bernabeu for over a decade.

Marcello has been banned for just 10 appearances in all competitions at the post and was not on the bench for Wednesday’s match as he continues to recover from a muscle injury.

Mendy, who joined Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2019, is now the undisputed starter for the left-handed side of the defense, and recent transfer Gossip suggests that Marcello will be allowed to move to the end of the season with Juventus. One of the clubs touted it as a possible destination for the 32-year-old.
