Toyota Created a Home Helper Robot

If you have a look at the number of cars sold by Toyota, you can notice what a huge impact this company made on the spread of cars, especially in Japan. And nowadays, it seems as if their current dream is to put a robot inside every home. Toyota showed the world how much it could help people and how lives could be different if they were completely automated. So, it may sound positive, like enjoying True Blue casino codes no deposit, and therefore Toyota is planning to equip every home in the country. It could be done with the assistance of the Toyota Human Support Robot (HSR).

The robot is designed to help with house chores and offer companionship to the aged. This programme is made in line with the declaration by Toyota’s President in 2018. There is a transition from an automobile company to a mobility company with endless opportunities in progress. The first public use for these sets of robots is expected to happen in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

What Is the Toyota Home Helper Robot?

This Home Helper Robot could be described as an automated butler. It is created to assist people’s houses, and you can operate it with a tablet computer or a voice command. In some cases, it can even move around and perform some tasks. The robot is shaped in a cylindrical way and light in weight, and it is equipped with an extended folding arm. With this tool, it can suction up thin objects, retrieve objects from heights, pick up those dropped on the floor, open curtains and light barricades, and carry out some other home chores. Furthermore, with its Omni-directional wheel, it can move in any direction at all.

What Made the Toyota Home Helper Robot Necessary

Nowadays, more than a quarter of the world’s population are senior people over 65 years, most of them live alone. This situation increases the demand for longer-term elderly care. Furthermore, the United Nations also predicted a doubling of the elderly population in the next 30 years. Thus, by 2050, we will have more than 1.5 billion people above 65. So, in the bid to find help and assistance for those who may not be able to move on their own and carry out some tasks, Toyota decided to develop the home support robot.

Now, we cannot say that artificial intelligence is a substitute for human care. However, these robots are designed so that friends and family members can operate them from remote locations. It also creates genuine human interaction because the operator’s voice and face are relayed in real-time. Moreover, as the number of ageing people is increasing, there is the need for a system to assist people, help them live independently for many years, and go through the labour force rise. With the Toyota Home Support, people will have more time to spend with their families and enjoy their existence.

The Development Process of the Robot

The first set of robots by Toyota was rolled out in 2011. After that, they placed helpers in homes and medical facilities, seeking feedback from researchers, health care workers, and patients. Firstly, in-home trials were conducted on people with limb disabilities. The first tests were done in liaison with the Foundation for Yokohama Rehabilitation Service. After this, a robot prototype was revealed in 2012 as a part of the Toyota Partner Robot series, which involved some robots previously unveiled at the International Home Care and Rehabilitation Show in Tokyo.

This forerunner was designed in connection to the Japan Service Dog Association. The primary role of the Service Dog Association was to inform Toyota about the main desires and needs of people with limb disabilities. In addition, they incorporated users’ feedback from interested parties and began to quicken the development. Later the company formed the HSR Developers Community in conjunction with some research bodies in 2015. The aim is to make conscious efforts to hasten the development and push for practical adoption of the Home Support Robot.

The Toyota Home Helper Robot’s Design

After analyzing some of the prototypes being tested, we can conclude there are up to three types that can be distinguished. Apart from a floor-based mobile robot, there is also a gantry robot that hangs from the ceiling. These models were all developed in a lab in California. To come up with the design, developers had to make trips to Japan. There, they discovered that one of the main constraints could be the floor space where the robot would operate. So, they needed to design something that will fit the current prevalent floor space. Creators imagine houses will be built with robots directly integrated into planning and designing from the very in the future. After visiting Japan, engineers started designing a robot that can travel the ceiling. It prevents troubles of navigating a cluttered floor as things could be damaged in the process.

Apart from the gantry, there is a soft bubble gripper robot. It is designed to use air- cushions gently in grabbing varieties of objects. These machines are trained with virtual reality. Here, human beings perform actions and then program the robots. Meanwhile, we must note they are still just prototypes, and there are no plans for commercialization yet.

Technical Specifications of the Human Helper Robot

The Toyota Human Support Robot has the following characteristics:

  1. 430mm body diameter;
  2. 1005-1350mm body height;
  3. 37kg weight;
  4. 340-1030mm shoulder height;
  5. holding capacity is up to 130mm in width.

The maximum speed is 0.8km/h, and they can move over areas with a height difference of up to 5mm and up to 5 degrees incline.

Conclusion

The Home Support Robot is coming as a solution to the needs of the ageing community and the world’s population as a whole. There are plenty of forerunners presented but not commercialized yet. However, when Toyota finally makes them profitable, these robots will be among the best innovations of the decade. It will enhance our lives in no small measures and help the seniors to live longer. The world will welcome them with joy.
