Dolphins shockingly fire head coach Brian Flores

Brian Flores is stunningly out as the Dolphins head coach after three seasons, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Flores, who previously served as a safeties and linebackers coach in New England, came to Miami in 2019 and ended his tenure with a 24-25 record.

Flores’ shocking departure is said to have come down to his deteriorating relationships between franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, whom the Dolphins drafted in 2020, and general manager Chris Grier, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported Monday. Team owner Stephen Ross “no longer saw Flores as a healthy fit in Miami,” per Darlington, who also cited “constant staff changes.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also alleged there was a “power struggle in Miami.”

As for who will fill Flores’ role, although ’s Jim Harbaugh could be potentially this head coaching cycle, Darlington said Monday the Dolphins are not looking at the former 49ers coach, per sources.

Flores, however, is expected to be under consideration for other head coaching vacancies, per Schefter.

The Dolphins missed the playoffs and ended the season at 9-8, despite a seven-game winning streak midway through the year.

They finished the regular season Sunday with a win over the Patriots.
