Alex Trebek’s daughter did not see ‘Danger!’ Guest hosts

Adopted daughter of The late, great Alex Trebek Talked publicly on Tuesday for the first time since his father’s death in November, detailing how difficult it is to see a stream of guest hosts on his father’s podium.

“It was his show for me, and it was difficult for me to pursue this show,” Trebek’s daughter and 55-year-old Nikki Trebek and his first wife Ellen Calleigh said in an emotional interview on “CBS This Morning”.

The show has welcomed guests from broadcaster Katy Corrick to Aaron Rodgers before they make an announcement on a permanent host. And rotation has not always been smooth sailing. On Monday, Dr. Mehmat Oz began hosting his two-week stint despite resentment from former contestants over his allegedly dubious medical claims.

“I kicked him out of the house on the last day of the last taping he was able to do … I just want to honor his fight.”

Nikki is the daughter of Alex’s ex-wife, Elaine Callie. The couple was added in 1974 when she was 6 years old. After their divorce in 1981, Alex raised Nikki and gave her her last name.

Nikki also explained the ways her father is giving back after she passes away. He announced the creation of “Team Alex”, with a team participating in a (virtual) Purple Stride event for the benefit of pancreatic cancer – which killed his father after a two-year battle. Cancer research is conducted to benefit Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

“I just want to honor her fight,” she said of the incident. “I think Purple Stride is a way to show how much integrity he had throughout the work.”

In an Instagram post earlier this month, Nikki shared her cancer diagnosis with the world on her father’s two-year anniversary.

He said, “He brought the much-needed #Awareness This terrible disease and provided #Happ For so much struggle. I am proud of him for his courage and honesty during his illness.

She also reflected on the newly opened homeless shelter at La, Trebek Center, which was completed with donations to the Hope of the Valley Blast Mission. Nikki said that the family is also donating Alex’s suits as needed.
