Alt-right social media network Gab goes offline

Due to the explosion in popularity following the riots in the US Capitol, Gab, a social network of well-to-do people, went offline on Friday evening and its Twitter account also went black.

Twitter user First started posting that website And the social media account associated with it went down around 6:30 pm Eastern time.

Just before dark, it was speculated Friday night that the site was hacked as part of a cryptocurrency scam. The Post could not verify that theory.

The website’s founder, Andrew Torba, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Gab was taken offline by his host in 2018 after posting suspected anti-Semitic pip and conspiracy theories in the Pittsburgh Synagogue massacre. Tech companies then began accepting cryptocurrencies for payment.
