I am currently holding my hamstring while typing this. I may end up on the 10-day podcast IL if I type too hard.

The Mets are the walking wounded as they limp their way into Atlanta on Monday. It was a brutal three-game sweep over the weekend down in St. Petersburg at the hands of the Rays. The pitching stunk. The lineup stunk. The manager stunk. And more guys got hurt. The Mets are without half of their usual 25-man roster at the moment, which is tough to recover from. Yet here they are still in first place in what has been an uninspiring NL East thus far.

To talk about the NY turned IL Mets, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me, featuring a fun chat with Citi Field Mets public address announcer Colin Cosell.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake & Figgie:

  • METS SWEPT: What happened in Tampa? Luis Rojas was bad again managing over the weekend. How much better is Kevin Cash as a manager? Mets pitching came back down to earth and bullpen was used a lot. Offense has been tough to watch at times. James McCann is not hitting, Tomas Nido could end up getting more time soon. A lot of .200 and worse hitters in MLB this season.
  • INJURIES: Mets are the walking wounded right now. Twelve guys are on the IL or out of the lineup, which is half the team. They could only go so long without some of their key players if they want to win. The “bench mob” has held the fort down, but can not do this for a long period of time.

  • FANS BACK/CITI FIELD: Good to have fans back after it being eerie last season. Edwin Diaz trumpet entrance music is incredible.
  • GRANDPA HOWARD COSELL: Memories with his iconic broadcaster, getting behind a microphone as a kid and his story with him at their summer house in the Hamptons watching Jim Abbott’s no-hitter.
  • HOW HE GOT HERE: Bartender, doing a professional ultimate frisbee league, doing PA for the New York Riptide, doing announcer voice drunk.
