Amazon Fresh Grocery Store to Transform Fairway in Parmes

Parmes Fairway is getting a new start.

Amazon Fresh Supermarket is set to replace the closed fairway market in Parmes, NJ

The e-commerce giant, owned by Jeff Bezos, bought the former fairway location last March from a bankruptcy auction along with another former fairway store in Woodland Park for a total of $ 1.5 million, The Post previously reported.

Amazon’s plans for the two locations were listed as confidential at the time, but came on as a Seattle-based company, which also owns Whole Foods, was beginning to expand into the groceries sector.

But Amazon confirmed in November that the former Woodland Park fairway would be converted to Amazon Fresh. And now, the Paramus location will go the same route, an Amazon spokesperson Confirmed from NorthJersey.com

.

It is not clear when the opening day will take place, and the company did not return the Post’s request for comment.

Amazon opened its first Fresh Store in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles in September. According to the tech giant’s website, it has opened at 11 other locations in California and Illinois.

The Amazon Fresh Company is trying to offer a mix of in-store and online grocery shopping, attracting a different demographic of Whole Foods by lower prices. Fresh stores have more national staple brands than Whole Foods such as Coca-Cola and Kellogg, which emphasize organic food.

As the Post previously reported, Amazon is looking to scoop a few more Fairway locations to expand Amazon Fresh’s footprint in the Northeast. Only seven of Fairway’s 14 stores were sold at last year’s bankruptcy auction, with two going to Amazon. Village Supermarket, which operates Shoprite Stores, acquired at least four of those locations as well as rights to the Fairway brand.
