AMD unnecessarily threw scalpers a bone with limited-edition ‘Midnight Black’ GPUs

Because the world is in dire need of another GPU that people can’t really afford, AMD decided to release A limited edition “Midnight Black” edition RDon RX 6800 XT on Wednesday morning, where it sold out before most people’s cards were sold.

You might be thinking: “Why would you practically release a limited edition of a collector’s piece even without a new coat of paint?” (AMD’s recent GPUs are even rarer than Nvidia’s, though both are currently two to three times their retail price from eBay.)

Or you might be thinking: “When, of course, AMD announced a new GPU?” I do not remember that “This is because the company has not formally announced it: According to video card, AMD quietly told their “AMD Red Team community” by email at midnight that they should watch out for the card at 6AM PT, an announcement that didn’t stay in the wrap, to put it mildly.

Personally, I’m just wondering: If AMD really wanted to put video cards in the hands of their fans, don’t verify their emails, or unique, non-transferable passwords by emailing them, or withholding them, or the original. Don’t do anything other than that. Put them on Same website Where bots, scalpers and everything else everyone wants to see already – a website that sets some people to refresh their browser throughout the day?

There appears to be a special “Red Team link”, but a group of buyers reported that it didn’t work – while some others claimed they were able to buy one on the main store page by pushing the refresh button . Or by using a JavaScript shortcut to spoof the website.

There are potential solutions to these issues, but the gaming industry is not very interested in finding them. Still, it would credit AMD for selling at the original retail price of $ 649 instead of charging more.

It is unclear how many Midnight Black Cards were produced; At press time, two buyers were trying to postpone their confirmed orders on eBay, while a third pulled their listings due to an unspecified error.

AMD tells The Reporter Door It continues to “focus on delivering the latest Radeon graphics card to as many gamers as SEP possible,” and counts the abbreviated appearance of the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT Midnight Black as part of that .

“We continue to provide reference cards on AMD.com and will continue to replenish supplies for the future,” the company says, something I wrote about when I made a similar claim last time. Since then, however, AMD has (very briefly) supplied the GPU at least three times that I’m familiar with.
