Emily Mayfield is grateful for her family.
On Wednesday, the wife of embattled Browns star Baker Mayfield posted a photo on her Instagram Story of the 26-year-old quarterback walking along the water with the couple’s four-legged friend at what appears to be sunset.
“I love my family. Happy girl,” Emily captioned the scenic shot.
It’s been a challenging few weeks for the Mayfields, who, despite support from Cleveland faithful, will likely be moving on from Ohio in the near future.
Last week, the Browns tossed their name into the ring of the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes. Although the team was originally eliminated from the race, the Browns stunned the NFL community Friday by trading for the controversial Texans quarterback, offering him a five-year, $230 million deal, fully guaranteed.
Mayfield, the Browns’ first-overall pick in 2018, originally requested a trade following the news that Cleveland was looking elsewhere for a quarterback. He asked for a trade again Friday — once a Watson-Browns union had come to fruition — and set his sights on the Colts, who have since traded for Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.
With Indianapolis now out of the mix of potential landing spots for Mayfield, it remains to be seen just where the former Oklahoma product will end up. Although Mayfield was briefly linked to the Panthers, his camp has engaged in preliminary discussions with the Seahawks, according to The Athletic.
Seattle is in need of a quarterback after sending franchise star Russell Wilson to Denver, in what has been the first of many blockbuster quarterback moves this offseason. Even though the Seahawks received Broncos quarterback Drew Luck in return, among other players and draft picks, there’s a chance Seattle could turn to Mayfield.
Despite leading the Browns to a playoff berth in 2020, Mayfield struggled under center last season as he grappled with injuries. He underwent surgery in January to repair a torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder.
Regardless of what the future holds for Mayfield, he and wife Emily — who have been married since 2019 — will embrace the next chapter together.
