According to a Friday report, President Biden has a Venmo account – and it was very easy to find.
Buzzfeed News sniffed The president on the quick payment app after watching “less than 10 minutes”, first raising concerns about the privacy and security of the family.
The website also reported that it found “about a dozen” of Biden’s family members on Venmo and used the app’s public friends feature to sketch the web of his closest contacts – including senior White House staffers Were included.
The report did not disclose the usernames of Biden, First Lady Jill Biden or first son Hunter Biden, the latter two of which were also described as Venmo accounts. Buzzfeed News also noted that the president’s Venmo transaction had not been made public, with his list of public friends disappearing after the site reached the White House for comment.
The report described how online trolls, dangerous hunters and hostile intelligence agents can use the app to uncover and exploit aspects of the Biden family’s personal lives.
Two members of Biden’s extended family were reportedly already contacted by a man who made several requests that they meet the president to give money to that person.
“If someone first wanted to map the family’s activities, they could see their activities on the social network and find out what the family is doing, seeing what their partners are doing,” New Haven Wahid Behzadan, director of the University Secure and Assured Intellect Learning Lab, told the site.
When contacted by The Post, Venmo’s spokesperson declined to say whether Biden’s account was still active, how long he had used the app and what steps are being taken to ensure account security Were.
“We do not disclose information about the individual accounts,” said the spokesperson, who also declined to say whether the White House or any other federal agency contacted Venmo about the account prior to the publication of the Buzzfeed report did.
The White House also did not respond to requests for comment.
