Chavo Guerrero's veiled shot at WWE star

An age old tradition in professional wrestling is talents of bygone eras saying the present performers are soft.

We have a new example of that, as Chavo Guerrero has taken a veiled shot at Seth Rollins after Rollins got bullrushed by a fan at Barclays Center in Brooklyn during WWE’s “Monday Night Raw.”

“Remember when the wrestlers were tougher than the fans?” Guerrero tweeted. “Ah, the good ol’ days.”

Guerrero, 51, is a member of the legendary, three-generation Guerrero family of Mexican wrestling. He was a longtime performer in WCW, WWE, ECW and TNA. He has also appeared in AEW this year as a “consultant” to the wrestler Andrade El Idolo.

When wrestling used to be presented as unscripted (despite having had scripted outcomes), it was a lot more common for fans to attack the heels — bad guys — than it is today. In keeping with the surrealism of the genre, it would bolster the reputation of wrestlers as tough guys to beat up the fans who attacked them.

Elisah Spencer, a 24-year-old from Red Hook, has been charged after attacking WWE star Seth Rollins Monday night at Barclays Center.

As is always the case with wrestling, consider that these are people who are living lifelong gimmicks when evaluating anything they say publicly.

Rollins did put his attacker in a headlock before security intervened. Throw in the fact that he was blindsided by a man running full speed at him, like a quarterback whose pass rusher completely whiffed on an assignment, and it’s unclear how Rollins deserves scorn for how he handled himself here.

Warning: Graphic Language

Elisah Spencer, 24, of Red Hook was arrested by New York City police and charged with attempted assault and disrupting a live sporting event, cops said. He was released on a desk appearance ticket, according to authorities.
