We think the battle of the Chrises might’ve just been won.
Chris Pine wowed fans with a wildly different look this week, trading his usual cropped ‘do and neatly trimmed facial hair for a gray, bushy beard and long locks at the premiere of his new movie “All the Old Knives” Wednesday.
Telling Entertainment Tonight his 1970s-inspired vibe was “equal parts laziness and equal parts something I may do in the future here,” the “Wonder Woman” star said his more relaxed grooming routine had its benefits.
“If there’s any excuse not to shave and have makeup put on, I, you know … ” he admitted.
When pressed if his shaggy-haired appearance had anything to do with a new role, Pine, 41, hesitated, saying “Maybe,” before adding “It’s mostly laziness.”
The “Star Trek” actor continued the groovy vibes with his outfit for the premiere, wearing a cream-colored linen suit and matching shoes with his shirt unbuttoned to reveal a gold chain.
“This is my Gregg Allman ’70s look,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “My publicist said I look like a Bee Gee, but I prefer Gregg Allman.”
One fan was quick to point out that Pine — who stars in the new flick with Thandie Newton — was also channeling another 1970s star (and fellow Chris), Kris Kristofferson.
“Chris Pine has gone full Kris Kristofferson, and I for one support and applaud this swerve,” one tweet said, sharing the striking similarity between the looks.
When asked by People about the reaction to his disco-era appearance, the actor, who is reported to have recently broken up with girlfriend Annabelle Wallis, quipped, “The internet is on fire.”
However, fans of the bushier Pine might be disappointed because he told Variety at the event that his beard wouldn’t last for long.
Sharing with the publication that “it took like six months” to grow, he added, “now I have to shave it off.”
Perhaps directors of Hollywood should get working on an Allman Brothers Band biopic.
