UFC legend Chuck Liddell took to social media to shed new light on his domestic violence arrest.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department arrested the 51-year-old Liddell at his home in the Hidden Hills area early Monday morning for an alleged domestic violence incident, according to Fox 11. Liddell wrote in an Instagram post that he “was the victim of the incident last night at our family home” and that he “volunteered” to go in his wife’s place. He was charged with domestic battery and posted bail at $20,000.
“This was one of many times I have tried to shield a family mental health issue from the public purview,” Liddell wrote. “It has been painfully apparent that this cannot continue, as our private life has now reached a public breaking point.”
Authorities told Fox they received a call from Liddell’s home and the responding officers determined the former UFC light heavyweight champion and his wife has been involved in a physical incident
Liddell wrote that the sheriff department deputies responded professionally and informed him that his wife would be arrested. Liddell said he “did not respond to her assault” and sustained “bruising and lacerations.” His wife didn’t not require medical treatment, according to reports. He asked for respect for his family’s privacy and said “the information about his case will be revealed in due course.”
Liddell headlined 13 UFC events during his career and was one of the promotions big early stars. He last fought for the UFC in 2010 and his last fight came against rival Tito Ortiz at an event promoted by Oscar De La Hoya.
