Clarke Schmidt out of Yankees competition with elbow injury

TAMPA – With his first injury of the spring, according to manager Aaron Boone, Clark has been battling an elbow injury for at least three or four weeks with Schmidt.

The right-hander underwent an MRI examination which showed that he was experiencing the strain of his normal extensor tendon, similar to a tennis elbow.

Team physician Dr. Schmidt was investigated by Chris Ahmed.

Boone said the injury is related to Tommy John surgery Schmidt in 2017.

The 24-year-old felt that there was controversy to move out of spring training, but he would now miss the first month of the regular season.
