Cop fires at man threatening people with knives on LES: police

An NYPD cop opened fire on a man who was threatening people with knives on the Lower East Side Friday morning, authorities said.

The suspect, described as an “emotionally disturbed person,” was menacing people on East Houston Street and the Bowery around 8:40 a.m. when one cop let off a single round, police said.

The man was not struck, but was taken into custody and brought to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, police said.

A police officer was taken to Bellevue Hospital for ringing in the ears.

Two knives were recovered, authorities said.
