COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations plummet across New York

Deaths from COVID-19 fell to the single digits in New York and hospitalizations hit the lowest number since Aug. 3, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Saturday.

Five New Yorkers died from the virus Friday including a resident of Brooklyn and a resident of Manhattan, Hochul said.

The number of hospitalized patients stood at 925 on Friday.

Only five COVID-19 deaths were reported in New York state on Friday.

Of the 136,585 COVID-19 test results that came back statewide Friday, 2,642, or 1.93 percent, were positive. The statewide seven-day average positivity rate was 1.85 percent and 1.39 percent in New York City.
