  • Betty White on why she wasn’t afraid of dying

    [ad_1]

Nine years before her death, Betty White shared that she wasn’t “at all” afraid of passing on.

“My mother had the most wonderful outlook on death,” the trailblazing TV star, who died Friday morning at age 99, told Katie Couric on “CBS Sunday Morning” in 2012.

“She would always say, ‘Nobody knows. People think they do — you can believe whatever you want to believe what happens at that last moment — but nobody ever knows until it happens.’”

White noted that her mom, Tess, always described death and what may come after it as a “secret.”

“Growing up, whenever we’d lose somebody, she’d always say, ‘Now, they know the secret,’” she told Couric.

The journalist, 64, offered words of gratitude that White hadn’t yet discovered that secret before asking the advice she’d give to others who want to live a similarly long, rich life.

“When I pontificate, it sounds so, you know, ‘Oh, well, she’s preaching.’ I’m not preaching, but I think maybe I learned it from my animal friends,” White replied. “Kindness and consideration of somebody besides yourself, I think that keeps you feeling young. I really do.”

The comedic icon — who had a more than eight-decade career including iconic roles on “The Golden Girls” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” — died less than three weeks before her 100th birthday.

Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Mike Lopez told The Post that officers responded to a radio call Friday at about 9:30 a.m. regarding “a natural death investigation” at the star’s home in Brentwood, Calif.

Her agent and close friend Jeff Witjas confirmed the news to People magazine soon after.

“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas’ statement read.

“I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much,” he continued. “I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband, Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

New Year’s celebrations started early in Miami.

“Die Young” rapper Roddy Ricch performed at megaclub E11even on Wednesday in front of a packed house that included Nas, Future, Gunna, Kodak Black and Swae Lee, we’re told.

The group was there to celebrate the birthday of Swae Lee’s brother and Rae Sremmurd groupmate, Slim Jxmmi.

“The group partied at a big table and drank,” said a spy. “Ricch went on at 4 a.m. He was shouting, ‘Everybody going to get that money in 2022!’”

    Let’s hope he’s right.

Ricch dropped his album “Live Life Fast” on Dec. 17 with tracks featuring Future, Kodak Black and Gunna. Other songs have contributions from Jamie Foxx, 21 Savage and Ty Dolla $ign. Prolific Ricch — who was nominated for six Grammys in 2020 — has also already announced his next mixtape, “Feed Tha Streets 3.”

Also at the club was regular Busta Ryhmes.

We hear that E11even is nearly sold out for 50 Cent’s New Year’s Eve performance.

Earlier this month, during Art Week Miami and Art Basel, Cardi B and her rapper husband, Offset, were spotted at the same Miami club celebrating an NFT artist called WhIsBe. A source told Page Six at the time that a “mystery crypto-spender” gifted the couple $20,000 in singles “to make it rain.”

During July’s Bitcoin convention, Page Six reported the club took in six figures in crypto currency and hosted patrons including Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel.

Deadmau5 took the stage that night for a crowd that also included Jake Paul, former basketball pro Dennis Rodman, DJ Marshmello and Larsa Pippen.

Betty White had a wild side.

The legendary “Golden Girls” star — who died Friday at age 99 — was a pioneering animal rights activist devoted to saving endangered species and improving conditions at the Los Angeles Zoo.

The beloved actress worked for decades to champion animals in her charity work, along with publishing a book on the subject and starring in the nature-boosting 1971 show “Pet Set.”

“Betty White demonstrated a lifelong commitment to helping animals in need, including dedicated support for local shelters and animal welfare endeavors, fiercely promoting and protecting animal interests in her entertainment projects, and personally adopting many rescued animals,” said Matt Bershadker, president of the ASPCA, which White worked with over the years.

“Betty was a constant and compassionate advocate for vulnerable animals across the country, and will be greatly missed.”

Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association president Tom Jacobson added, “Her work with [the zoo] spans more than five decades, and we are grateful for her enduring friendship, lifelong advocacy for animals, and tireless dedication to supporting our mission.”

After White’s death on Friday, fans took to Twitter to thank her for being a friend, to animals.

“A trailblazer. An original. And a truly kind soul. May she be forever surrounded by four-legged animals in heaven,” one fan tweeted.

Another added, “Everyone loved Betty White for a million different valid reasons, but I’d like to celebrate her decades of activism, advocacy and devotion on behalf of animals and animal welfare, something she learned as a child and made a central part of her life. #RIP”

White — who owned dogs including a Pekingese, a St. Bernard and miniature poodle — had a deep love of all things furry and feathered.

She served on the Los Angeles Zoo’s board for more than 50 years, paving the way for state-of-the-art exhibits.

“I’m the luckiest person in the world — my life is divided in absolute half: half animals, half show business,” White told TV Guide in 2009.

“It is so embedded in me,” she said, according to Smithsonian magazine. “Both my mother and father were tremendous animal lovers. They imbued in me the fact that, to me, there isn’t an animal on the planet that I don’t find fascinating and want to learn more about.”

After White was born in 1922, her mom even joked that her longtime orange tabby cat, Toby, was still top dog.

“My mother always told me that if Toby didn’t approve, I would have to go back,” White quipped to Parade magazine.

In the 1960s, White began working with the Los Angeles Zoo to help improve the then-lackluster conditions of animal enclosures.

“I got involved with the Los Angeles Zoo because I was kind of shocked that Los Angeles had such a poor zoo inside,” she told AARP. “I’ve never been one to stand outside and criticize. I’d rather get inside and see what’s going on, see how I can help.”

She served on the zoo’s board for more than 50 years, paving the way for state-of-the-art chimpanzee, orangutan and gorilla exhibits.

“Many people have a closed mind on zoos. They think no animal should be in captivity, they should all be in the wild in their own habitat. Well, of course, that is a myth,” White told Smithsonian.

In the 1970s, White also worked with the Morris Animal Foundation, which “advances animal health” though top-notch research, according to its website

White eventually served as the group’s president emeritus as it developed groundbreaking animal science such as the feline leukemia vaccine and the Potomac horse fever vaccine.

Over the years, she also worked closely with the Los Angeles ASPCA and the dog guide school The Seeing Eye.

In 2011, White published the book Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo and went on to host TV animal-centric TV specials such as the “Hero Dog Awards,” “Big Cat Week” and “Betty White Goes Wild.”

  • The best celebrity couple style moments of 2021

    [ad_1]

It’s been quite the year for celebrity relationships. Sure, there were a few can’t-believe-it breakups (RIP, Kimye and Zigi) — but 2021 birthed plenty of buzzy new couples too, from Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker to (finally!) Zendaya and Tom Holland.

This year even marked the glorious return of our favorite famous Y2K twosome; welcome back, Bennifer!

We also saw some major fashion moments from superstar duos who are still going strong — like Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox, who continue to (quite literally) nail it everywhere they go. And who could forget about Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, who finally confirmed their long-rumored romance by wrapping themselves in designer duvets at the Met Gala?

Below, our favorite headline-making celebrity couple looks of 2021.

More than a year and a half into their courtship, these “twin flames” are still as hot and heavy as ever. While they’ve coordinated their clothes for countless outings, the duo basically broke the internet at May’s Billboard Music Awards, thanks to Megan’s jaw-dropping cutout Mugler LBD and MGK’s matching painted tongue. A little freaky, yet totally fascinating.

Bennifer’s back, baby, and looking better than ever to boot. Out with the low-rise jeans and Juicy tracksuits, in with the coordinating cashmere!

One glimpse at the couple’s looks from their red carpet debut in Venice — a plunging white Georges Hobeika gown for her, a classic Dolce & Gabbana tux for him — and it’s clear how far these early-aughts lovebirds have come.

The Poosh founder has denied changing her personal style to match her man’s, but she’s certainly embraced darker, edgier ensembles this year. Case in point? The laced-up leather Olivier Theyskens look she chose for her first carpet with Travis at the VMAs, which just so happened to go perfectly with his studded Thom Browne suit. Rock on, you crazy kids.

    Rihanna and A$AP Rocky

Following years of romance rumors, the Fenty Beauty founder and the “F—kin’ Problems” rapper finally made things official on fashion’s biggest night: the Met Gala, where they closed the carpet dressed in what looked like luxury Snuggies. How’s that for a power move?

    Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin

Most folks would go the formal route for a presidential meeting, but not the Biebers! For a rendezvous with France’s Emmanuel Macron in June, Hailey opted for an ab-baring body-con dress by LaQuan Smith, while Justin accessorized his striped Celine suit with necklaces and Nikes instead of the traditional tie and dress shoes.

Their laid-back looks might’ve divided fans, but at least they weren’t boring.

    Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Leave it to these two to continue coordinating despite their divorce. Kim, who’s long credited Kanye with introducing her to the fashion industry, hit the Met Gala in a face-obscuring Balenciaga outfit obviously inspired by her ex — so much so that fans assumed he was the mysterious masked man by her side. In fact, it was actually designer Demna Gvasalia, a mutual friend of the former couple’s who also happened to oversee creative for the rapper’s “Donda” events earlier this year.

“Kanye gave her the courage to push creativity and people’s imagination through art,” a source told Page Six Style of the polarizing look. Okay!

    Zendaya and Tom Holland

We can’t imagine the pressure of standing next to Zendaya on a red carpet — or anywhere, really — but her “Spider-Man” sweetheart showed how it’s done at the LA premiere of their franchise’s latest installment, “No Way Home.” Tom’s double-breasted Prada suit beautifully complements Zendaya’s webby Valentino without trying to outshine it. As if anything could.

    Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Since stepping down from their royal roles and decamping to California, the Sussexes haven’t had many reasons to dress up. As such, it was thrilling to see them back in their black-tie finest at November’s Salute to Freedom Gala in NYC.

Meghan traded the more conservative looks she favored in the UK for a red-hot Carolina Herrera gown with a deep neckline and dramatic train, while Harry looked as dapper as ever in a Giorgio Armani tux adorned with his military medals.

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey

It doesn’t get hotter than this absurdly photogenic (and largely private) couple. While they have yet to make their red carpet debut — fingers crossed for 2022! — Michael and Lori occasionally share snaps of their stylish date-night looks on social media. This standout from February proves head-to-toe black doesn’t have to be boring.
