I have never been able to Diablo 2, How many times have I tried.
I was hoping Diablo 2: revived This would be the final push needed to re-show the history of one of my favorite series. After struggling through the same keyboard and mouse controls hours ago, I made a desperate swap to test the new controller functionality.
Only then Diablo 2 Finally clicked for me. As a player with thousands of hours Diablo 3Believe in my mind using a controller, is cheating Diablo 2 It is actually more modern than it is.
Leaving the old land
Diablo 2Control always held me back; The two-button skill controls were always disappointing.
Instead there are many skills bound to the key like 1-4 world of Warcraft or Diablo 3, Or QR like League of Legends, Diablo 2: Revived Allows two skills to be used on the mouse when using the mouse and keyboard, just like the original. I can click to move my character and perform a limited number of attacks or skills on that button. Or I can right click, which I can tie to any skill of the game.
If I have to use more than two skills without opening my menu, I need to bind those skills to a number key. Pressing that bound number key will swap my right click skills out of the UI and pair it with the key I pressed. This is a two-step solution that I think should be a one-step problem. I hate it, and the way the keys are missed for all those other skills is very stressful.
But as I closed the game, disappointed that I could not find a comfortable way to play, I spied a twitch beam using a controller.
I noticed the UI change, and then in my watch. I grabbed a nearby controller and logged back in Diablo 2: RevivedSeeing what would have been a poor decision for my sleep, but a great decision for my holiness – trying to understand why this classic, important game never clicked for me was stressful at times in my career Stayed.
A trick of the mind
The Controller immediately felt familiar while controlling my Barbarian. it felt like Diablo 3.
I have spent thousands of hours in many sessions Diablo 3About a quarter of the time on consolation with friends and family. I reviewed the Switch version of the game. Currently i am spending my time playing Diablo 323rd season. I know Diablo 3 Sounds like a controller, it’s fresh in my mind, and it seems Diablo 2: Revived – And that’s good.
The biggest boon for the controller is the skill-mapping feature. Unlike the keyboard and mouse interface Diablo 2: Revived Where I can only activate my skills with one left click or right click, the controller’s interface provides six different places where I can place my skills – each mapped to an individual button . And if I fill all those spots, I can grab the left trigger to pull a secondary bar with different skills, almost to adjust the loadout on the fly or use my town portal scroll to make it more. To make it more convenient.
The controller doesn’t fix all the issues that kept me away Diablo 2; I still need to manage my mind to make basic abilities unpleasant, the inventory is very small, and I don’t like using all these potions. But the control experience is so variable that those issues become frustrations, not frustrations. I’m still not sure I fully understand Diablo 2 There is love outside of a historical context, but I am eager to learn.
The more modern design of the controller interface leads me to believe that it is indeed Diablo 2.5 – with all the fun improvements to the control interface I want to have a good time, but that purists might hate. And this feeling will inspire me through an important, historical video game, which I never thought I would finish.
