Here are some notable nuggets that happened during Mets’ spring training action on Sunday:
Dom-inant spring
Though Dominic Smith went 0-for-1 in the Mets’ 14-0 loss to the Nationals in West Palm Beach, Fla., he finished as the team’s unofficial MVP this spring with a 1.377 OPS in 13 games.
Not holding ’em
Colin Holderman put himself on the Mets’ radar this spring with his 99 mph fastball and early success, but got roughed up against the Nationals, allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks over 1 ²/₃ innings.
Caught my eye
Lefty reliever Joely Rodriguez, acquired from the Yankees over the weekend, allowed one run on two hits in the sixth inning.
Wednesday’s schedule
The Mets will work out in Washington in preparation for Thursday’s scheduled season opener.
