Drag performance suffers shoe mishap at designer LaQuan Smith’s bash

The shoe must go on!

Losing a shoe wasn’t going to stop the show at designer LaQuan Smith’s bash at Temple Bar on Thursday.

During a Naomi Campbell-inspired drag number, performer Xunami Muse’s sky-high stiletto came off her foot. But a spy told us, “She kept going with the number, sashaying across the room on her toes and miming some of the supermodel’s most iconic quotes.”

“What is that called? Dedication to the crowd,” drag hostess Janelle No. 5 commented when Muse was done, before launching into a performance of singer Selena’s “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.”

Later there was a “visual trivia game” showing pics of Smith’s outfits with questions about what celebs wore them or what collection the pieces were from. Smith has dressed Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and the Kardashians, and is known for his body-hugging designs.

Just hours after splitting from Kanye West in February, “Uncut Gems” actress and self-described muse Julia Fox made headlines by walking in Smith’s New York Fashion Week show in a skintight black gown with cutouts.

Queens-born Smith — a CFDA Award winner who started his line when he was only 21 — gave a brief speech thanking the party’s partner Saks, which picked up his brand in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Tonight is about… celebrating New York designers, celebrating designers of color in the luxury space. Let’s just f–king have fun tonight!” he told a crowd that included chief merchandising officer for Saks, Tracy Margolies, Lauryn Hill’s daughter, Selah Marley and Art Production Fund executive director Casey Fremont.
