El Chapo’s wife arrested for drug smuggling

Federal prosecutors said the beauty-queen wife of notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested on Monday on charges of international trafficking.

31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispo was busted in Virginia on charges of participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for import into the US.

She accused him of helping her husband play an expanded role in the July 11, 2015, escape from the Ultiplano prison in Mexico.

Coronel, a dual US-Mexico citizen who married Guzman in 2007, was a fixture in her high-profile Brooklyn trial two years earlier. He was sentenced to jail in July 2019.

Prosecutors alleged that not only was he aware of his role as leader of the violent Sinaloa cartel, but he also worked among them to help in his drug trafficking operations.

Between 2012 and 2014, while Guzman, now 63, was hiding from Mexican authorities, his wife allegedly “relayed messages on his behalf” in the importance of drug trafficking activities, according to an arrest affidavit.

When the drug lord was arrested in Mexico in February 2014, he continued to deliver messages he allegedly received from him during prison visits.

She also assisted in two plots to help Guzman escape a Mexican lockup – fed charges, including his infamous 2015 jailbreak, through an underground tunnel.

Court papers allege that Coronel played a key role in the audacious escape – an elaborate, months-long plan to dig into Guzman’s cell and drive him away through the tunnel on a motorcycle.

He reportedly worked with Guzman’s sons and a witness, who is now supporting the players to organize the construction of the Mylong, lighted passage.

The plot included purchasing a piece of land near the prison, purchasing firearms and an armored truck and smuggling a GPS watch to Guzman to indicate his location “building the tunnel accessible to him with an entrance Ho, ”the court docs state.

During Guzman’s trial, suggestions were made that his wife was involved in cartel activities and helped his escape.

Former Sinaloa cartel Capo Demaso López Núñez told the court that Coronel had told him personally to Guzman that “was thinking about taking the risk of running away from prison and wondering if I could help with this.” “

“I’m sure,” Lopez testified at the time.

She sat steadily through the blockbuster trial – sometimes with her husband wearing matching outfits – even through testimony about her mistress and how she spies on her cellphone.

A federal law enforcement source previously told the Post in 2019 that the Feds were investigating Cornell, also known as “La Rinita” or the little queen.

Leggie Brunette is a former teen beauty queen and mother of Guzman’s twin daughters. She appeared in the VH1 reality-TV show “Cartel Crew” in November 2019.

She was in Noor at Dulles International Airport and appeared before a judge in Washington DC via video conference on Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer who could comment on the allegations.
