Ex-Jets tight end Pete Lemon in fishing tournament

Pete Lemmons, a key member of the Jets Super Bowl III victory, died in a ferry accident on Thursday in his home state of Texas. He was 77 years old.

According to a press release from Major League Fishing, the former tight end, who was also on the University of Texas Championship team in 1963, fell to the dock and sank while preparing for a fishing tournament.

An avid fisher, Lemons was a professional angler who competed at 57Th MLF tournament of his career. His body was recovered by ships using sonar, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

His nephew, Lance, Told Jacksonvilleprogress.com Lemon was fatigued with two stent surgeries that he underwent in recent weeks.

Lemmon, who played in New York for six years, caught a touchdown pass in the Jets’ AFL Championship win over the Raiders. He caught a pair of throws in Super Bowl III from Jets veteran Joe Namath in a Colts’ 16-7 upset.

In 2018, Lamons competed in 50Th Anniversary reunion of the Jets’ Super Bowl team. He ended his NFL career, including one season with the Packers, 185 catches, 2,364 yards and 14 touchdowns.
