To bid on this bling you will need a deep pocket.
A huge 242-carat diamond is going on in the auction block next month in Dubai. Bidding starts at over $ 2 million.
Russia-controlled diamond producer Alrosa, the world’s largest producer of rough diamonds, is offering the gems at its 100th international auction in Dubai on 22 March.
The crystal-clear rough diamond is approximately the size of a small egg, making it one of the largest stones. Alrosa has mined in this century.
“Coarse diamonds, which potentially allow polishing diamonds larger than 100 carats to be cut, are extremely rare in nature. There is a tendency for such gems even less frequently, ”Aleros Eduarev, who heads Alrosa, said in a statement.
Diamonds were mined more than a decade ago, but under Russian law, diamonds larger than 50 carats must first be introduced into country-owned reserves.
The auction comes months after the “incredibly rare” 14.8-carat violet-pink Russian stone was auctioned for more than $ 26 million.
Large diamonds mined in Asia are still the size of jewels discovered in Africa.
The world’s largest diamond – the 3,106 carat Cullinan – was found in South Africa in 1905.
