Hulu rejoins picture-in-picture mode for iOS 14

Hulu has completely rejected picture-in-picture support (PiP) on iOS, MacRumors Reports, Meaning that half-viewing network TV is once again possible for Hulu customers on iPhone and iPad devices. Hulu joins a collection of major streaming services that support the feature on iOS, leaving YouTube as the major exception.

PiP for iPhones was enabled for Hulu around the original release of iOS 14, But was later disabled “Work on some updates to provide the best experience for our audience,” Hulu said. Now that this feature is back, users can enable PiP mode by starting a show or movie and touching the PiP button to pop the video into a resizable, temporary player.

Hulu connects with services such as Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max to support PUP. All those services include either a dedicated PAP button such as Hulu, or default in picture-in-picture if you are playing video when swiping to Home Services.

YouTube is odd. Picture-in-picture is not allowed in Google’s official YouTube app for iOS. Pay for YouTube Premium Enables background play, but only enhances audio on iOS. Google has periodically disabled and re-enabled PiP support for the web version of YouTube on iOS. By October 2020, PiP was again possible, although it does not work as of today. Currently, only iPhones running iOS 14.5 beta can PiP on the web version of YouTube, According to MacRumors.
