NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport let out a cuss word during a live radio appearance Thursday before abruptly bailing on the interview.
Rapoport was discussing possible future changes to the league’s widely debated overtime format on the WEEI’s “Gresh and Keefe” when he took an awkward pause and said, “Oh, sh-t. I just got a text. I got to go.”
It turns out Rapoport received a message tipping him off about the Bears’ working to hire Matt Eberflus as their new head coach.
Chicago fired former head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace last month after a dismal 6-11 season.
Rapoport quickly hung up the phone as the hosts laughed about his unexpected exit — and later replied to the situation on Twitter.
He shared a few shoulder-shrugging emojis in a reply to “Gresh and Keefe” on Twitter, after the show aired a clip of his exit.
The show’s official Twitter account playfully trolled Rapoport with a written statement in response to him cutting their interview short, invoking Thom Brennaman’s on-air apology-turned-meme.
“We respect Ian’s decision to put his job as an insider first as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run. And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”
Rapoport’s fellow NFL Network insider Mike Garofolo got in on the fun as well.
“You seriously are the worst,” he replied to Rapoport’s tweet. “With all due respect.”
