Chris Letang scored his second goal of the game in 4:34 overtime, giving the Penguins a 4-3 win on Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum.
Sydney Crosby had a goal and an assist for Pittsburgh, which won for the sixth time in eight games. Jared McCann also scored and Tristan Zari scored 24 as the Penguins defeated the Islanders for the fourth time five times this season.
Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist, and Matthew Barzal and Josh Bailey also scored goals for the Islanders. Simeon Varlamov, who started for the fifth straight game, stopped 27 shots.
The Islanders fell to 6–0–2 at the Nassau Coliseum, the only team remaining in the NHL without a regulation loss at home. The Islanders went 7-2-2 in February – with all the losses coming against the Penguins.
The teams concluded their two-game weekend series at the Nassau Coliseum on Sunday.
At the end of the extra period, Letang brought the ice up and fired a shot through the islanders to Jean-Gabriel Pague’s feet and the top left corner. It was Latang’s fourth of the season, all coming against the Islanders.

McCain tied it at 3 seconds 18 in the third. At 2-on-1, McCain received a pass from Evgeny Malkin in the middle and defeated Varlamov for his third.
Barzal made it 2–0 at 1:34 of the second. He skated across the ice on the right and fired a shot that removed an elongated John Marino’s stick and the back of the brocade.
With the Penguins on the third power play of the game, Virlmove fell back after catching his skate on the ice as Crosby got a pass from Letang and fired a shot from the top of the left circle into the top right corner in 2:17.
Letang tied it 26 seconds later, passing a pass from Kasparni Kapanen from the back of the net and a slap shot over Slaporo.
Bailey led the Islanders, scoring from the front with a 5:09 remaining goal from Anthony Bevillier. It was Bailey’s second goal of the season.
Jarry and Varlamov saved eight tries in the first period, with Varlamov stopping four of Pittsburgh’s four power plays.
The Islanders got on the scoreboard in their only power play of the game in the opening round. Oliver Wahlstrom sent a pass from the left circle to Nelson’s right door and Nelson with a left hand at 1:20 intercepted a six over Jeremy for his six.
