Jaclyn Smith credits ‘good lighting’ for youthful photo with son

Jaclyn Smith knows she looked good in that viral photo — but she won’t take all the credit.

“I’ll tell you it was a good photo,” the “Charlie’s Angels” star, 76, confessed to Page Six in a recent interview.

“Right place, right time. That’s the luck of the draw. Great lighting. I’m with a person that I adore, my son, and it was a going-away party, so my eyes were probably glistening with tears there, sparkling because he’s one of the humans I worship.”

Last month, Smith drove the internet wild when she posted a photo of herself and her 39-year-old son, Gaston Richmond, on Instagram.

“My Son-Shine!” she captioned the post, although many comments noted how she looked more like Richmond’s sister than his mom.

“I love what that photo says to me,” Smith told us. “It says I’m the luckiest lady in the world to have a son like him. As we know in pictures, they reflect what’s going on inside of you, and that picture reflected every emotion I had at that moment.”

The actress is, of course, best known for her turn as Kelly Garrett in the Aaron Spelling-produced campy drama “Charlie’s Angels,” which became an instant hit when it debuted in 1976.

“The heartbeat of that show was the girls. The first three, we all got along, we were all friends,” she explained. “Farrah [Fawcett] and I had a similar background coming from Texas, and Kate [Jackson] was the leader. She had already done a series. She was the boss at that point, and we didn’t know what we would find at the other end.

“I think about my career, but it always comes back to ‘Charlie’s Angels,’” Smith continued. “The chemistry and three women being the lead and it was easy, it was not to be overanalyzed. I think what made it interesting was we were all so totally different in demeanor and looks, so there was someone for everyone.”

Smith also loves the “Charlie’s Angels” era’s fashion and lack of artifice.

“It was a more innocent time, and looks were not as enhanced then,” she said. “It wasn’t hair extensions; it was, ‘This is us.’ I love that not everything was retouched. There was privacy and mystery. Today everything is out for everyone to know, and it’s in your face today. Fashion was feminine. It was sexy. It wasn’t in-your-face sexy. There was a refinement to it.”

The TV star went on to play Jackie Kennedy Onassis in a 1981 television movie and also morphed into a hugely successful businesswoman with a skincare line that her fourth husband, Dr. Brad Allen, developed for her, a wig line and a fabric line called Trend.

“My line has always been about value and quality and getting more for your money and not having to pay a fortune,” she explained.

The other thing that keeps Smith busy is doting on her two grandchildren, Olivia Rose, 2, whose dad is Gaston, and Bea, 5, whose mother is Smith’s daughter, Spencer Margaret Richmond.

“It’s the best thing in my life,” she exalted. “I would steal them if I could. It’s hard to explain with grandchildren. It’s like you need an extra chamber in your heart. In many ways that grounds you because you look beyond yourself, it’s no longer just about you. You know you’d give it all for them.”
