Jim Steinman, songwriter for Meat Loaf and Celine Dion, dead at 73

Jim Steinman, the mastermind behind some of the most epic songs of the last 40 years of pop music, Has passed At 73.

The Grammy-winning hitmaker, who collaborated on chart toppers for Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, Bonnie Tyler, Barbara Stisand, Def Leppard and more, died in Connecticut on Monday. TMZ has confirmed. According to the state medical examiner, he dies after an undisclosed medical emergency at 3:30 pm on Sunday.

Steinman’s “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” and other songs made up the bulk of Meat Loaf’s 1977 blockbuster record “Bat Out of Hell”, which went on to become one of the best-selling albums of all time. The pair continued to work for the second segment – and the third of the Rock II series – from which they came out of 1993’s “I’ll Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do This)”.

Esoteric lyricists were known to draw inspiration from art. Her song “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now”, performed most famously by French-Canadian icon Céline Dion in 1996, was said to be inspired by Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights”. Critics recorded Dion’s recording as a “highlight” of her English-language music career, which certainly paved the way for her global, decade-long success.

Steinman later received his first and only Grammy in 1997 for writing on Celine Dion’s album “Falling into You”.

In 2004, a stroke left Steinman temporarily unable to speak, and spent years Relearning to use his voiceAccording to a speech, he delivered in 2013 at Amherst College.

The exact cause of Steinman’s death has not been revealed.
