A judge Wednesday denied former President Donald Trump’s request to pause rape accuser E. Jean Carroll’s defamation lawsuit while he appeals another ruling in the case.
In December, lawyers for Trump asked that Carroll’s suit be put on hold while he appealed a judge’s ruling in October that barred the Department of Justice from replacing Trump as a defendant.
Manhattan Federal Judge Lewis denied the motion to stay the case Wednesday, without further explanation, according to court records.
“We’re looking forward to oral argument in our case before the Second Circuit [Court of Appeals] during the week of November 29,” Carroll’s lawyer Roberta Kaplan said in a statement. “In the meantime, we are reviewing Judge Kaplan’s order.”
The Elle Magazine “Ask E. Jean” writer sued Trump in November 2019 claiming that he defamed her when he publicly denied knowing her and denied her allegation that he raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman changing room in the early 1990s.
Lawyers for Trump did not immediately return a request for comment.
