She’s breaking away from Blackstock.
Kelly Clarkson revealed the reason behind her decision to legally change her name to Kelly Brianne — and, perhaps not surprisingly, it has to do with her recently settled divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
“I just got divorced, so I had to drop my married last name,” she told “People (the TV Show!)” at the premiere of “American Song Contest” Monday.
“I just kept my middle name for my personal life. I’m still Kelly Clarkson.”
The “American Idol” Season 1 winner then joked, “I don’t think I can change Clarkson at this point. I’m 20 years in!”
Clarkson, 39, filed for the stunning name change in February because she felt the new name “more fully reflects who I am,” as she explained in court documents at the time. A court hearing regarding her petition is scheduled for March 28.
In Clarkson and Blackstock’s bitter divorce, the “Since U Been Gone” songstress was granted primary custody of their two children — daughter River, 7, and son Remington, 5 — while Blackstock, who resides in Montana, will have the kids one weekend a month.
Clarkson will keep the former couple’s Montana ranch, though Blackstock, 45, is allowed to live there until June 1. In the meantime, he must cough up $12,500 a month for rent.
TMZ reported that the talent agent would get spousal support — $115,000 a month — but that expires in January 2024.
The Grammy winner filed for divorce from the former talent manager in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. They were declared legally single in August 2021.
After going through expensive and begrudging divorce proceedings, Clarkson joked in December 2021 that she’d be “single forever.”
