Key Health Care Employees Association Supports Maya Willie for NYC Mayor

New York’s largest union representing health care workers supports Maya Ville for mayor.

Announcement of support on Friday out of 1199 of the Service Employees International Union boosted Willie’s campaign, which suffered a setback earlier this week when it failed to qualify for public matching funds.

The union represents employees in hospitals and nursing homes throughout the city.

SEIU 1199 was one of the unions that supported Bill de Blasio’s victorious first bid for mayor before the 2013 Democratic primary.

Willie previously served as de Blasio’s top legal counsel.

Patrick Gaspard, former political director of SEIU 1199 and a pal of de Blasio, is the unpaid adviser to Wiley’s campaign and maintains a deep connection to the union.

Wylie prepared the infamous “agents of the city” memo, announcing correspondence to five of the closest outside de Blasio, including Gaspard – including Gaspard – exempt from public disclosure laws because they advised him to run the city was.

The courts related to the correspondence did not privilege the information and ordered the mayor’s office to release The Post and other media.

Despite the ties, endorsement is a coup for Wiley. SEIU 1199 is one of the most well-organized unions and is known for mobilizing volunteers and voting for their favorite candidates.

1199 President George Gresham said that the time had come to elect a woman to run the city hall.

“Maya Willie has the experience and vision we need to move forward, and to reorganize our city when working people have the tools and access to the support they need to live with dignity,” Gresham he said.

He said, “Maya’s priorities are our priorities – to make up for our compensation for investing and rebuilding our economy through job creation and training.”

“We believe Maya is uniquely positioned to join the ranks of Shirley Chismol, Stacey Abrams, and many other women who have continued to serve as the backbone of our communities, and political The fights are nationwide.

“We are proud to support Maya and are doing everything possible to build our collective vision for NYC.”

Willie was thrilled to receive the Union’s prestigious support, with thousands of its members staffing medical wards during the epidemic.

“We know who takes care of us in our darkest days; The same people who protected, fed, cleaned and cared for us even during our bright. Now, it is our turn to take care of the carers, ”said Willie.
