Luann de Lesseps on why she apologized for drunken behavior

Luann de Lesseps said she felt the need to publicly apologize for her recent drunken antics because she wanted to do “the right thing.”

“I had a pretty good track record, but people slip. And like I said, I’m only human, and it happened,” she said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” Tuesday.

“That’s part of being responsible and moving on, picking yourself back up and doing the right thing.”

De Lesseps also felt it was “important” that she “own” her behavior.

“And you know, I had a party that night, for sure,” she added.

The “Real Housewives of New York City” star, 56, who claims she had been sober up until the incident, also emphasized that “people make mistakes.”

“I’m only human, and it’s progress, not perfection,” she said.

Page Six exclusively reported that the Bravolebrity was kicked out of gay piano bar Townhouse in New York City last week after she took over the mic to belt out tunes and told booing patrons, “F–k you.” The countess later denied being kicked out, claiming to us that she had been celebrating and left on her own accord.

The “Money Can’t Buy You Class” singer changed her tune days later, however, and issued an apology on Instagram.

“This week, after a regrettable incident, I was faced with the truth,” she began her statement on Instagram Saturday.

“I want to apologize to the staff at Townhouse and anyone else I may have offended with my behavior,” she continued. “Clearly my struggles with alcohol are real!”

De Lesseps has struggled with her sobriety for years, having been arrested in Palm Beach, Fla., in 2017 for being drunk and disorderly. She pleaded guilty to battery, trespassing and disorderly intoxication to reduce her charges.

The reality star has publicly battled alcohol addiction ever since, having spent time in rehab in order to get ahead of her issues.

“While I’ve made great strides over the years, there’s been times where I’ve fallen. It’s one day at a time,” her Instagram statement continued. “I’m in recovery and taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
