Man accused of striking woman in Bronx

A 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault for randomly killing a 60-year-old woman across his eyes in The Bronx on Sunday, police said.

According to police, Tyler Maria of Florida was placed at the corner of Claflin Avenue and Reservoir Avenue near the Jerome Park reservoir.

Police said the victim was walking around East Tremont Avenue near Samuel Young Park around 4:30 pm Thursday when a stranger saw her from behind, slapped her on the shoulder and cut across her forehead and eyes when she turned .

The attacker never said a word, police said.

Emergency medical services rushed the woman to Jacobi Medical Center, where she had to take 18 stitches to close the wound, police said.
