That area of improvement would largely be the defense of Nimmo.
In five seasons with the Mets, Nimmo has hit .258 with 130 OPS-Plus, replete with his ability to achieve with bases. Including minus-5 in 44 matches last season, according to the FanGraphs, his defense has lagged behind in center field, recording minus-14 defensive runs.
Nimmo believes he may have an answer for some of his struggles – he was playing too shallow, he said, which was preventing him from catching balls, which analytics considered catty – But admitted that there were other balls that “I just screwed up.” He said he changed his position in September last season and noticed the difference. Nimmo is looking forward to a new office program centered around agility and a quick burst also pays dividends.

While Springer signed on as a free agent with the Blue Jays and Bradley, the Mets entered camp with Albert Almora Jr. and Kevin Pilar as the new option in center field with Nimmo. Until then, he wants to prove himself at the center.
