The Mets built their lineup around left-handed bats the past few seasons, but soon they could have a shortage.

Brandon Nimmo is one lefty swinger (albeit not a huge power threat) the Mets can count on for 2022, and Francisco Lindor and Eduardo Escobar are switch-hitters. Beyond that, much resolution is still needed.

There is some expectation within the industry the Mets will trade Dominic Smith or Jeff McNeil, if not both, once the MLB lockout concludes and teams can resume making transactions. Robinson Cano is another left-handed bat, but he’s also 39 years old and returning from a season-long PED suspension. Cano was out of action in the Dominican Winter League due to lower back discomfort for two weeks before his recent return. He’s a giant maybe for the Mets.
