Millions of Texans are still without heat, electricity or water

Millions of Texans woke up on Thursday morning without heat, electricity or water – with the historic cold snap that was expected to wander the power grid for several days.

As of early Thursday, 2.7 million Texas households were still without heat, while upwards of 12 million people either do not have drinking water on tap in their homes or drinking water is only available intermittently.

This has particularly devastated some hospitals, despite people being forced to refuse to wash their hands as the most basic safety measure, especially the coronovirus epidemic.

Some communities have become completely isolated in some parts of the state with frozen roads.

“These are a variety of disasters within the disaster,” said Judge Lina Hidalgo, the top elected official in Harris County, which includes Houston. “Cascading effects are not going away.”

Of the 23 declared on Wednesday, no more storm deaths have occurred.

Authorities suspect many more people have been killed – but their bodies have not yet been discovered, according to Reuters.
