Prosecutors accused a Queens home health aide of stealing approximately $ 100,000 from an 89-year-old blind woman, which she announced on Sunday.
According to a press release by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, 61-year-old Sita Saunders is accused of ripping the victim during 11 months starting in March 2019.
Prosecutors said Saunders is suspected of instigating his weekly paycheck – which he signed to the victim – from $ 1350 to $ 3,350.
In total, he is accused of paying a salary of $ 9,000.
The release states that the elderly woman is alleged to have withdrawn more than $ 81,000 from her bank account.
Saunders’ investigation began after the victim’s son noticed an unusual amount of money being withdrawn from his mother’s bank accounts and contacted the district’s attorney’s office.
Saunders, who took care of the victim for nearly 10 years, is accused of grand larceny, identity theft and criminal possession of stolen property.
