Celebrity tributes are pouring in for late director Ivan Reitman, who died on Sunday at the age of 75 in his sleep.
Hollywood took to Twitter to express their love and condolences for the late “Ghostbusters” filmmaker.
“A legend. The number of great movies he made is absurd,” “Eternals” star Kumail Nanjiani wrote. “RIP… ‘Ghostbusters’ is my first favorite movie ever.”
Paul Feig, director of the 2016 “Ghostbusters” remake, penned, “I’m in absolute shock. I had the honor of working so closely with Ivan and it was always such a learning experience. He directed some of my favorite comedies of all time. All of us in comedy owe him so very much. Thank you for everything, Ivan. Truly.”
Of the “Kindergarten Cop” director, singer Diane Warren said, “Very very sad news. thank U for the movies Ivan Reitman.”
Chicago Sun-Times reporter Richard Roeper added, “What a huge loss. Only met Ivan Reitman briefly here and there, but I loved his work, and I know dozens of actors, writers, editors, et al., who respected the hell out of him.”
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Ivan’ Reitman. Truly a great man and filmmaker who I had honor and privilege of knowing and working with. Deepest condolences to Jason and the entire family. May he RIP,” “Ghostbusters star” Ernie Hudson wrote.
“Cobra Kai” writer Jon Hurwitz chimed in with a list of Reitman’s most iconic works. “‘Animal House,’ ‘Meatballs,’ ‘Stripes,’ ‘Ghostbusters,’ ‘Twins,’ ‘Kindergarten Cop,’ ‘Beethoven,’ ‘Dave,’ ‘Space Jam,’ ‘Private Parts,’ ‘Road Trip,’ ‘Old School.’ What a legacy of classics. Ivan Reitman was always kind and supportive when our paths crossed. My deepest condolences to his family. #RIP.”
“Opening night of ‘Ghostbusters’ at UA Plainview was like a rock concert. The place exploded with joy,” “Knocked Up” director Judd Apatow posted. “It was one of the most memorable moments of my childhood. Ivan Reitman influenced everything we all love about film comedy. A true legend.”
Mindy Kaling wrote, “Ivan Reitman was old school in the best way, and kind. I loved working with him. It’s sad he’s gone, it makes me feel older and like my childhood movies are more faraway than ever. RIP.”
“Road Trip” star Breckin Meyer recalled his own experiences with Reitman, writing: “Ivan Reitman produced ‘Road Trip’ and there wasn’t, and still isn’t, a day that we forgot what a COMEDIC MASTER he was. Growing up on his work & THEN getting to work with him was a dream. He was encouraging, brilliant and pretty much right about everything. RIP Ivan and thank you.”
The Czechoslovak-born producer’s children — Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman — revealed the news of his passing in a sorrowful statement on Feb. 13. “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life,” they said.
They continued, “We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
