BUFFALO, NY – Pavel Zacha converted a drop pass from Jasper Bratt to score 1:17 in over time and the New Jersey Devils missed a one-goal deficit to defeat the Buffalo Sabers 4-3 on Thursday night Rallied
The Devils selected a three-game skid to beat an injured Saber opponent.
The buffalo opened up minus captain Jack Eichel, who was scratched after testing a lower body injury during pregame skate. And the Sabers then went on to lose to goalkeeper Linus Ulmark, who was sidelined after stopping all 15 shots he faced in the first.
Brat also scored for the Devils, while Zaka added two assists to extend his talk to eight games, with three goals and seven assists. McKenzie Blackwood stopped 29 shots.
Buffalo’s Sam Reinhardt forced overtime in Taylor Hall’s center passing for a power-play goal with 4:30 remaining.
Casey Mittalsadt and Riley Sheehan also scored for the Sabers, falling 2-5-1 in their last eight, both coming against New Jersey with the win. Carter Hutton stopped 25 shots in relief of Utermark.
The decisive goal was to gain the Sabers zone with Brett and leave the running back Zaka, who was trailing. Zacha then leaned into a snapshot from the right circle to beat Hutton inside the far post.
The game’s complex changed to 2:58 when Hall was penalized for high-sticking Wood while battling for the puck at Devils Corner.
Wood stopped the way to Gusev 1:27 later, tying him in a loose-fitting clothesline at the right post.
Hitchier scored the go-ahead goal 20 seconds after Hollier’s second penalty bounce ended. Zacha’s beaching pass discharged directly from the skate to Sabers defenseman Brandon Montour and went straight to Hisier at the right post, where he rolled Peck under a pile of carcasses.
Mittelstadt put the Sabers up 2–1 with a power-play goal, in which he redirected Eric Staal’s scoring pass for the second time in 8:03 seconds.
For Mittelstaat, who spent more time in the minors last season, this was his first goal since November 29, 2019. Meanwhile, Staal earned his 1,029th career point, which moved East of New York Rangers to Brian Leach for 81st. NHL list.
The Sabers continue to capitalize on their power play in converting two of four opportunities. Buffalo has gone 16 of 38 in their last 11 matches and scored once in 13 of 13 matches.
