Peter Gotti, Gambino’s former crime boss, dead at 81

Mobster Peter Gotti, one-time Gambino crime boss and heir to brother John “Dapper Don” Gotti, died in North Carolina, where he was serving time in federal prison. He was 81.

The Associated Press reported that Gotti was sentenced to 25 years in 2003 after pleading guilty to racketeering and other charges.

The Bronx native was behind bars for more than 17 years and was recently seeking early release due to his poor health.

Gotti was suffering from thyroid problems, and was blind in one eye, Lewis Kasman, a former dacoit and John Gotti confidant, told AP.

Peter Gotti, a former sanitation worker turned dacoit, captured the Gambino crime family as his younger brother John was sent to prison on charges of murder and intimidation.

John Gotti died of cancer in 2002.
