Phil Mickelson goes barefoot for another mud shot

Now this game is trudging through the mud.

Golf star Phil Mickelson had to land in the lake in the first round of the PGA Tour Champions Colgaard Classic this weekend to make a superb save two days in a row. After his shoes were sunk in the mud on Friday, he went barefoot on Saturday for another lakefront shot.

50-year-old Mickelson found himself near the water at -5Th Hole, with his ball lacking to go all the way. The five-time major championship winner had the understanding to take off his shoes and socks before stepping into the lake.

Despite the fact that his ball was just inches away from being submerged in water, Mickelson was able to make his swing and manage not to cover himself in the mud. He made it to the green with his third, and though he missed the put, Mickelson equalized on the hole.

On Friday, Mickelson went to the Omni Tucson National Resort with his shoes at hole number 15 to get himself out of trouble with his ball at the edge of a lake.

He later went for a birdie two shots and eventually discovered that his feet were getting wet “calmed me down for the last few holes.”

Mickelson scored 72 in the second round and led by an eight-shot lead to place his bid for a historic three-win-in-the-tournament debut on the Champions Tour.
