Philippines’ Broiler Harper was forced to give up his team’s game on Wednesday night after a St. Louis left-hander Genesis Cabrera suffered a face injury with a 97 mph fastball.
The ball hit Harper’s nose and left cheek and on his left wrist at the start of a 3–3 game at St. Louis Busch Stadium. Harper was left blood-soaked off the pitch and he succumbed to his knees shortly after. He then proceeded to the dugout and headed straight to the visitors’ clubhouse. The Phillies did not immediately provide an update on her condition.

Cabrera made the situation worse when he hit the next batsman, Didi Gregorius, with a pitch. The umpires did not dismiss Cabrera, but he warned both backs. Phillips manager Joe Girardi rejected that call and argued. Girdhari yelled at Cabrera as he returned to the dugout, which drew a response from Cardinals manager Mike Schild.
Harper had two at-bats before he was hit. He gave up .321 batting games for the season with six home runs and 10 RBIs.
Matt Joyce came on to run for Harper and later scored a go-forward in the inning.
