Police sets fire to carjackers after being hit by a cruiser: NYPD

Police said a NYPD sergeant fired multiple times at the stolen car, allegedly slipping into a police cruiser on Thursday morning.

The 44-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, pounded Toyota Carry near West 31st Street and Broadway in Midtown around 1:15 a.m., according to Copts.

Police caught the stolen car a few hours later and pulled it over near West 44th Street and 12th Avenue.

According to the NYPD, when Sergeant came out to contact Camry’s driver side, the carjacker allegedly turned him upside down, causing him to crash into a NYPD cruiser.

The Sergeant pulled out his gun – firing several rounds at the car thief, police said.

According to police, none of the 44-year-old detained on the pending charges hit the rounds.

Police closed the road leading to the west side of the west side highway between West 44th and West 47th streets at 7 am. According to NYPD’s Twitter.
