Rachel Bonnetta sent Baker Mayfield an emotional DM after the Browns quarterback penned a heartfelt letter to Cleveland amid “uncertainties” about his playing future.
“There are certain guys that you always keep your eye on and I will always love Baker,” the NFL Network host said on the “Extra Points” podcast. “I sent him a DM and I said, ‘Thank you for everything. I’m always going to love you.’”
Bonnetta went on to read her message to Mayfield, who she said did not open the DM.
“You made the right move. Thank you for everything the past few years. Can’t wait to see where you go next. I’ll be a lifelong fan,” she read aloud.
Bonnetta is a devoted Browns fan who frequently posts about the team.
“I’ve never had more respect and love and admiration for Baker than I do right now,” she said. “Ask anybody, he seems like he’s from Cleveland with the amount of love he has for that city, the fans, and this team that has been atrocious for so long. He had so much energy, was literally putting his body on the line and writes a heartfelt letter.”
Mayfield posted the apparent farewell letter to Cleveland last Tuesday — the same day the Browns met with his eventual replacement Deshaun Watson.
“I have no clue what happens next, which is the meaning behind the silence I had during the duration of this process,” Mayfield wrote at the time.
The Browns traded for Watson that Friday in a mega-deal with the Texans that saw the quarterback waive his no-trade clause to go to Cleveland on a five-year, $230 million contract that is fully guaranteed.
As for Mayfield? He requested a trade out of Cleveland last week while the Watson deal was heating up, but the quarterback market is getting thinner by the day.
On Monday, the Falcons sent veteran quarterback Matt Ryan to Indianapolis, which was reportedly where Mayfield preferred to be traded.
The Seahawks emerged as a potential landing spot for Mayfield. Seattle could reportedly pursue the former first overall pick after trading away Russell Wilson to the Broncos earlier this month in a blockbuster deal.
The Panthers are another team that is in desperate need of a quarterback. But they are reportedly still not interested in Mayfield after losing out on the Watson sweepstakes.
