Rep. GOP eyes. Zeldin runs for governor against Cuomo

Republicans are trying to recruit long-time Congressman Lee Zeldin against three-term Democratic incumbent Andrew Cuomo next year, as the governor scrambled with party officials Friday with a growing epidemic-fueled nursing home scandal .

Sources said GOP insiders who provoked Zulin to take him to Kyolo for the governorship are Republican Party president Nick Langworthy.

The Republican National Committee – realizing that Cuomo is on the ropes over allegations that it hid significant COVID-19 nursing home death statistics – is interested in recruiting a strong candidate for governor in 2020.

Zeldin is an Iraq military soldier who was re-elected in November last year for a fourth term representing the 1st Congressional District of Suffolk County.

He previously served in the state Senate and called the Justice Department to investigate Cuomo’s actions in relation to the nursing home.

41-year-old Zeldin will have issues of his own which he should take on Cuomo.

He voted against certifying the election of Joe Biden after a crowd of Trump supporters stormed into the Capitol Building on 6 January. 6 – An issue that many Democrats in New York may close.

Zeldin defended his vote on the floor of the House.

“Election officials, secretaries of state, and courts have bypassed state election laws,” Zeldin said.

“He made massive changes in how his state elections would go. These acts, among other issues, were unlawful and unconstitutional. “

A source close to Langworthy said the chairman believed Zeldin’s strength in the purple suburbs of Long Island could make him an attractive candidate.

Former GOP Gov. George Pataki dominated the suburbs as well as won the top three races. But he is the last Republican to be elected in a statewide race in 2002, two decades ago.

Republicans also believe that Cuomo is actually tarnished by the nursing home scandal.

“Cuomo has fallen so fast so far,” said a GOP official.

Even some fellow Democrats accused the COVID-19 of obstructing justice for hiding the extent of nursing home residents killed for months, while others accused them of stripping them of emergency powers Has called.

Cuomo denies any wrongdoing.

State Democratic Party President J. When Jacobs spoke of Zhoundin possibly taking him to Cuomo, he was made fun of.

“If Republicans nominate Lee Zeldin for governor, I will contribute to his campaign. He will be perfect for us.

“Zeldin has Donald Trump supporting the line,” he said.

He said Zeldin’s refusal to certify Biden’s victory after the Capitol riot last month would turn off many voters.

Fox News Previously reported Zeldin has been named as a potential GOP gubernatorial candidate on Friday.
