Rikers escaped from the fence before capturing the prisoner again.

Law enforcement sources told The Post that an inmate from Rikers Island closed the prison on Friday morning – after running from a hole in a fence.

According to sources, the 20-year-old prisoner, identified as Jordan Hewitt, exited the recreation yard shortly before 9:45 am.

Sources said Hewitt, who is on a gun charge since his December arrest, did not come off the island and was back in custody on Friday.

It was not clear when the corrections officers had been searching for the prisoner.

When asked for details, Department of Corrections spokesman Jason Kersten said in a statement, “There has been no escape.”

But the DOC did not answer a series of follow-up questions, including how the agency defined the exodus.

About a year ago, 37-year-old Arthur L. of Brooklyn. Browne George R. Climbed down from the exercise area at the top of the Verno Center and put it in the water before being captured.

Brown had built it as a perimeter fence but was not “completely submerged” in water.

A recurse warden was re-appointed after the embarrassing incident and six correctional officers were suspended.

It was not clear how many correctional officers were hunting for imprisonment.
