Tiger Woods was recovering after surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles early Wednesday, when the surgeon placed a rod in his right right leg and suffered injuries to his leg and ankle.
The Chief Medical Officer of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Drs. According to Aneesh Mahajan, the veteran golfer suffered a “significant orthopedic injury to his lower lower extremity” after the devastating SUV crash outside Los Angeles earlier in the day.
Woods, 45, “has open fractures that affect the upper and lower parts of the tibia and fibula,” Mahajan said.
The surgeon stabilized Woods’ leg bones by inserting a rod into the tibia.
Injuries to the golfer’s foot and ankle bones were treated with screws and pins.
Woods “is currently awake, responsive and recovering in his hospital room,” according to a statement from his charity, the TGR Foundation.
Athlete Roncho was traveling alone on Hawthorne Boulevard and Blackhorse Road in Palos Verids at around 7:12 am when he apparently lost control of the 2021 Genesis GV80 and crashed into a raised middle.
Authorities said the vehicle crossed two incoming lanes, hit a curb and a tree and rolled several times before coming to its side in a grassy area.
Woods was “calm and clear” when forest officials pulled him from the wreckage.
Officials said the golfer was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are still ongoing, but officials said it was not the case that Woods was impaired
Officials said there was no smell of alcohol or any other symptoms that were under the influence of the golfer.
