Joe Douglas continued to focus on the offense on Friday night, giving new quarterback Zach Wilson a playwright who went to go with the defender on Thursday.
The Jets selected Ole Miss wide receiver Eliza Moore in the second round with the No. 34 pick. Douglas decided to add one more piece to the offense despite the defense’s dazzling holes at cornerback and linebacker. The Jets have now used their first three picks on offense and have not set any more draft options until the fourth round on Saturday.
Moore is an explosive receiver, who works as a slot in the pros. He had a monster record in the 2020 season with a school-record 86 catches for 1,193 yards in only eight games. He led college football in catches (10.8) and receiving games (149.1) per game.
Douglas is clearly focused on building around Wilson, when Jet Sam fails to do the same with Sam Darnold. After taking BYU quarterback No. 2 on Thursday, he traded from 23 to 14 to take guard Aliza Vera-Tucker in the first round. Then, he added Moore with the number 34.
Moore was a three-year starter at Ole Miss. He was a weapon for coach Lane Kiffin, receiving the ball and running the jet sweep and gadget plays. Moore’s maturity was questioned after mimicking a dog’s urine during a touchdown celebration in 2019 against Mississippi State. Penalty he received the cost of playing the Rebels.
Moore’s selection questions the future of Jameson Crowder with the team. Crowder is charging a $ 10 million salary cap charge and does not have much guaranteed money in his deal. The Jets’ top wide receivers are currently Corey Davis, Danielle Mims, Moore, Keilan Cole and Crowder. If the Jets want Moore to play immediately, this could lead to Crowder’s release.
The Jets traded both of their third-round picks in the deal to get Vera-Tucker and no other selections on Friday. They have to hit six sixes on Saturday – two each in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.
