Sean Penn is keeping a ring on it — for now.
The Oscar-winning actor kept his wedding band on when he stepped out in Malibu, Calif., on Saturday, one day after his wife of over a year, Leila George, filed for divorce.
Penn, 61, met with an unidentified gentleman for a lunch meeting at Ollo restaurant. After getting a bite to eat, the two continued chatting outside while Penn took a smoke break.
George, 29, filed for the dissolution of her marriage to Penn in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday.
It’s unclear at this time why the two decided to part after only a year of marriage. A rep for Penn did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
California divorce law requires a mandatory waiting period of six months before the court will issue a decree on the matter. If the split is amicable (and they are able to part without any conflicts) they could finalize their divorce by the end of March 2022.
Penn previously admitted that he and George couldn’t wait to tie the knot, so they did so over Zoom amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We did a COVID wedding,” Penn shared during his appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” back in August. “By that I mean it was a county commissioner on Zoom, we were at the house, my two children and her brother, and we did it that way.”
Penn and George dated for four years before they officially said “I do.”
This is Penn’s third marriage. He was previously married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989, followed by a 14-year marriage to Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010.
Penn and Wright share two children: actress Dylan, 29, and son Hopper, 28.
