Sen. Duckworth calls for ‘intensive investigation’ into anti-Asian crimes

Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth said Sunday whether racial hatred played a role in the fatal shootings at three Atlanta-area spas.

He said, “I want to investigate deeply whether these shootings or other similar crimes are racially motivated or not.” It looks racially motivated to me, “Duckworth told CBS anchor Magret Brennan on” Face the Nation. “

Authorities have said that 21-year-old accused shooter, Robert Aaron Long, claimed that he was not motivated by racial hatred despite six out of eight people.

However, Duckworth argued that local authorities often misrepresented crimes against Asian Americans.

“The problem is that crimes are not recorded as hate crimes or races that induce crime at the scene with local police officers because people don’t see Asian Americans as a minority group who regularly attack Are, “said Duckworth.

“Now, if you are Asian American like me and my family, you know, it happens on a regular basis, but often these crimes are reported in some other way – or when you say, ‘Hey I think it was inspired by race, the authorities did not pay attention to it and just reclassified them.

Duckworth said he wrote letters to FBI director Christopher Ray and former acting US Attorney General Monty Wilkinson to investigate the attacks against Asian Americans “on how many crimes are actually outlined as hate crimes.”

“We really have to deal with this situation. We need real data because what is happening here is why we can fix it, ”she said.
